Meeting with Alan November in small group:
1. Teach teachers to design own learning: tweetdeck, we need twitter to help our staff, role model how we learn. Follow top minds in our disciplines. Edchat- 1x week conversations about disciplines. Can create lists in twitter, and copy others' lists.
Alan has A list building of education hash tags
2. All librarians should have a shared diigo account. Same for all departments and administration. (Alan made group 2wlibmed). Can join diigo groups online that already exist (for history teachers). Also create diigo for class community
3.dipity.com - online interactive timeline. Can join/create collaborative timelines
4. Alan suggests we should collaborate and recommend tools by content area for our groups
5. Skype/communicate with other teachers/schools/colleagues. We skyped during lesson with Kathy Cassidy. She recommended kidblog.org and edublogs (pro version)
6. When researching standards, use site:k12.ct.us to see what other schools have
7. Teaching google- what makes top hits? Search term is in URL. Martin Luther king example- martinlutherking.org - owned by storm front, a white power site
Home deduce? Three references on net every child should know:
A) easywhois.com : type in and shows application for web address, shows organization that creates it (title page for website)
-force kids to analyze and find bogus websites
B) way back machine - archives.org - can look up any web address that no longer exists, and look at it from any given year to compare websites to today.
C) country codes - keep google from biasing your own searches
